Spencer has over a decade of investing and operating experience with a primary focus on the real estate and construction sector and is responsible for deal origination, transaction execution, portfolio management and overall leadership of R2 Capital.

Spencer has built a career at the intersection of real estate, construction, and operations. He began in 2013 as a pipefitter on hydroelectric dam projects in Northern Manitoba, specializing in fire suppression systems. Driven by the desire for greater challenge and opportunity, he shifted into entrepreneurship, starting with the acquisition and renovation of multi-family properties in Winnipeg. By directly overseeing renovations and day-to-day operations, he gained a practical understanding of how to unlock and compound property value, and leveraging refinance strategies to expand his portfolio consistently year after year.

His construction expertise deepened when he joined SA Energy, managing teams on large pipeline projects across Manitoba and Saskatchewan. This role honed his leadership and project management skills while exposing him to major industrial and commercial builds, including:

​

  • The Glass House, a $130M, 195-unit development in downtown Winnipeg

  • The $180M RBC Convention Centre expansion

  • Manitoba Hydro’s $4.9B Bipole III expansion

  • SA Energy’s $4.3B Line 3 Replacement project

​

By 2017, a combination of savings and rental income allowed Spencer to leave the trades and focus fully on real estate. Partnering with investors, he moved into larger transactions, sourcing off-market opportunities and deploying value-add strategies.

He also co-founded Sure Home Stays, a multinational short-term rental platform and property management company, where his focus on cost control, ROI, and building strong teams drove rapid growth.

​

Today, Spencer directs R2 Capital as co-founder and principal. He leads operations, builds and manages teams, and develops proprietary software to streamline lease analysis and investment management. His approach integrates deep operational experience with technology, ensuring efficiency and value creation across the firm’s portfolio.
